I decided to do my speech on Sunflower star fish because they are very interesting animals.

Starfish only have 5 arms but a sunflower star is born with 5 or 6 and as it grows into an adult they multiply to 15 to 24 arms!

It is amazing because compared to normal starfish this sunflower starfish moves over 1metre an hour!

The life span of most sunflower starfish is from 3 to 5 years.

I want to learn a lot more about Sunflower Starfish because they are fascinating creatures and have interesting lives.

Ghosts By Emma

I’ve chosen the topic of Ghosts and whether or not they really exist.

I believe that Ghosts may exist even though I have never seen one.

The reason I believe is because of all the Mediums and people who have appeared on TV claiming to talk to the dead. Some of them are very convincing.

While the thought of Ghosts is scary my mum says the dead can’t hurt you, it’s the living you should be wary of.

This might be a strange topic but I find all this kind of stuff very interesting and would love to hear any stories you may have to share.

I would also like to hear from people who don’t believe in Ghosts and why.

The Snow Leopard, sometimes known as the ounce, is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia from Afghanistan to Lake Baikal and eastern Tibet.

The life span of a snow leopard is normally 15-18 years, but in captivity they can live up to 20 years.

Weighing usually 35 kilograms to 55 kilograms the snow leopard is slightly smaller on average than a leopard. Exceptional large males can weigh up to 75 kilograms very small females weigh to 25 kilograms. The head and the body length is 99-130cm, the shoulder height is about 60cm. The tail measures 81-99cm and is proportionately longer than in any other cat species of comparable size.

Its diet consists mainly of ibexes, the Bharal, the Markhor, the Urial, deers, boars, as well as pikas, marmots and other small rodents.

China’s Earthquake by Meilun

I have chose China’s Earthquake because I think it is a very interesting topic. An earthquake had damaged nearly everything.  The earthquake degree was 7.9. Houses, apartments, offices and schools were knocked over by an earthquake in China. All the people who houses were knocked over had no homes. The government came to tell the students (who were still alive) that their parents had died.  Now the students have no money for the school. A week after the earthquake the Chinese government announced three days of morning to remember who have died, and the country came to stand still to observe a three minutes silence with the China flag half up. There were 34,000 people who died in the earthquake. There were some lucky people who haven’t died and were saved by rescuers.  I think everyone; I mean EVERYONE should donate money to the Chinese people who houses have been knocked down and some students who parents have died and now no money at all. Like me, I donated 200 China dollars.

I started Cubs this year because I thought it would be fun and interesting. Cubs is a great way to make new friends and belong to a special community group.

Each week there are activities at the local hall. The activities are in the areas of Arts and Literature, nature, Science and Technology, Sports and Recreation and Our World. For activities in each area you can earn special badges. When you collect all the badges you receive a Cub medal.

The Wolf is a symbol of the Cubs and the Grey Wolf is the highest Cub award and it is not easy to get.

So far we have done camp cooking, newspaper night and citizenship. Soon we are going on a camp.

I want to find out more about Cub activities during the year.

I recently played the part of Young Peter Allen in Miranda Musical Society’s production of ‘The Boy from Oz’. I not only had the most enjoyable time but I learnt so much about stage productions that I, and I imagine most audiences, previously took for granted.

I saw the hard work that happened behind the scenes and how many people were involved other than the actors that are seen on stage.

Eg – prop designers, lighting technician, dressmakers, choreographer, musical director and the director all focussing on different aspect of the production to bring the story to life.

This was a local production on a very limited budget. I then was lucky enough to go to America during the school holidays. I was also lucky enough to have enjoyed two shows in Las Vegas and two shows on Broadway. The effects and stage props were amazing and I was able to enjoy these shows not only for the story but also for the behind the scenes work that made the shows spectacular.

I would like to learn more about the workings of live theatre as well as getting involved in more acting and stage productions.

Port Arthur By Courtney

Port Arthur is a historical site with many interesting activities. The Penitentiary in Port Arthur used to be an old grain mill. It became a second punishment station and is now a tourist attraction.

There was a juvenile island where young boys at the age of nine or over went for committing crimes.  The girl juvenile prison was at Parramatta and the same rules applied.

There was a small island called The Isle of Dead, it had over 1100 dead bodies buried on it.The criminals had a church so that they could learn that god will forgive their crimes
